Deutz: About 2 miles from Epernay, between the banks of the river Marne and the slopes of the Montagne de reims. Ay has been renowned for longer than any of Champagne's other famous champagne-producing villages. Records show that champagne and press houses were owned by the Pope leon X, the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and by the Franch kings Francois I and HenryIV, who was also Lord of Ay.
Founded in 1938, the House of Deutz grew under the management of 5 generations of the same family. By the end of the 19th century it had acquired a first class reputation in France and in far-flung export markets
